Everybody has his or her own salt or pepper, partner in crime or the one he or she calls as “my other half”, and this just not happens between two people but with fashion as well –not that I am saying that each apparel is talking and in love with the other, but every garment is aligned with a certain apparel and ends up always being matched with each other and having the same look every now and then. For example, whenever you feel like wearing something cozy and sneakers pop in your mind, the next thing that you are going to do is to get a pair of shorts and pull off a simple but chic shirt; because sneakers are associate with that kind of look, apparel and characteristic, and thinking of other styling ideas is never become your hobby. Same thing happens with skater skirts, whenever it crosses someone’s mind, a pair of cute flats is automatically worn and matched with it, but similar with salt and pepper, there are other condiments that can also fit with its taste, have you thought about crushed red pepper?
Fashion continues to improve and become flexible as time flies. Everyone who loves fashion learns to cross the line that limits them, and continues to explore things out of his or her comfort zone. As a result, different looks are starting to come out and become a trend for a year or more. That is why, if before, skirts are the best friends of girly flats and heels, this modern time boat shoes, sneakers and boots are now part of the picture.
Colors and prints are the things that I love to play around every time I do mixing and matching, and whenever I pick the perfect shoes to wear as well. Before, there were only few colors of shoes that could be seen on my shoe rack, because what I commonly choose every time I go shopping were the neutral ones: black, gray, nude, blue, denim, etc. Why? Of course, just like you I was being safe that time and I usually foresee that shoes with bright colors might end up getting stuck on my shoe rack for a year. Until, I tried wearing colors and became addicted to each of them! Why not! It is fun wearing them, right?
The trick that I do whenever I put up an outfit with prints and colors is to look at the shade in the print that is more dominant than the others, or if there are only two colors, choose the one that has the lesser amount –with my skirt, since there are only two hues, I picked the orange one and made it my color foundation for my top and shoes. So, I chose plain orange top and red orange shoes, which complemented well with my skirt. Also, through these colors, the skirt is given enough emphasis but still with right balance since they are color coordinated.
On the different note, for my bag and hat, I selected a shade that fits well with orange and yellow. The color is not bright to prevent confusion of shades. It has hue that suits well with both yellow and orange and is not overpowering. If you wish to wear a bag that has prints even though you are already wearing a printed top or skirt, as long as its prints are minimal and not loud, it will never become a problem.
Frequently, whenever I pull off bright colors I wear a watch that has a neutral color –unless I have a shade that will fit with the ones that I am wearing. Therefore, I paired my white watch from Sperry to stick with the light hues that I am wearing rather than sporting a black watch.
These sneakers from Tretorn have a masculine look, which made them become the perfect shoes to match with shorts and jeans. However, since they have a color that added a little feminine touch, it made it easy for me to dress them a bit different by pairing them with skater skirt that has girlish shades and prints. Yes, you can wear comfy shoes while wearing your favorite floral printed skirt or whatever color or print you want to; because admit it or not, there are flat shoes that are not that cozy enough to walk around the mall or during your errands day.
So are you still going to limit your sneakers and/or boat shoes with just shorts and shirts? What do you think of this outfit?
