I know how dazzling the sun is during summer, but that cannot stop anyone, even me, from going sunny side up and wearing a highlighter-bright yellow this season.
Yellow might not be as easy as black, but it is not as tricky as you think. From bright sunshine, lemon, marigold and mustard, all can be sported with whichever available shade in your closet no matter what rules of yellow you have read. Never mind the notion of how black and yellow can be resulted to looking like a bumblebee when it is not the black and yellow stripes that you are planning to wear, and forget how complicated splashing other vibrant shades sounds when it is summer season where showing off your fun side is always welcome. But if you are still doubtful of what your ensemble could turn out, it is best to start with being playful in accentuating.
This hue of sunshine is what I perceive as one of the perfect colors to wear when adding accent or pop to my outfit especially when I am wearing prints, however, when it is the other way around where I am wearing a yellow dress, I stick to strong, bold colors that stand out against yellow such as magenta, teal, brown, purple, lime, orange, blue, red, pink and green. As a result, I opted for magenta for my hat while brown for my shoes and bag.
On the other hand, I tried wearing a drop waist dress and somehow manage to give a nod as this dress has good fit and silhouette, and cozy fabric. Also, it is a good thing that I have longer legs because if not, it might make me look shorter especially that its hem sits right below my hips – which petites should not risk on wearing unless your long legs can save you from looking smaller. Keep in mind that drop waist dresses befit to the ones with short torsos and long legs, and to a woman who wants to appear taller and hide a few extra pounds. Additionally, drop waist dresses for petites should be shorter and as mentioned, the drop waist hem should sit right above the hips, because if not, you might appear tinier than your actual height.
To be brief, rules of yellow are there to be broken. Thus, matching this shade with any color you prefer is alright as long as you are comfortable on how it looks. While for petites who want to wear drop waist dresses, just make sure to take notes of the reminders that I mentioned, then you can wear it as is, or with jacket or vest, and then you are good to go!
