Ever wonder what your childhood food is? Mine is something I will never forget because it is my dad’s favorite! I can still recall the first time that he let me come with him and mom and warned me that the food was not as fancy as I thought, but because I just wanted to come and I did not mind wherever they were heading, I said yes! And that is the first time I ate one of Philippine’s best dishes, Pares!
First thought? It is sweet and tasty, and the meat is really soft! I love everything about it that I always come with my dad whenever he craved for one, but that was already a long time ago. I even cannot remember the name and location of the Pares house where we used to eat, only that it is in Caloocan City area. Until, a friend of mine invited some of our friends including Seph and I for a dinner at Jonas The Fort Strip, BGC.
I was totally not familiar of the restaurant’s name until my friend told me that the place serves the best Pares and told me that this is the original Pares house at Retiro, Caloocan City! So I texted my dad to confirm, and yes, this is my dad’s favorite Pares house!
The best part? Its Pares still tastes delish! Nothing has changed! The texture, the sauce, everything is just what I remember!
What is more, Jonas now offers other dishes such as Chicken + Salted Egg Yolk, Lechon Paksiw, Siomai, etc.
Aside from the Pares, Chicken + Salted Egg Yolk is my favorite! Even though I have allergies, I could not resist trying it! I love how it is a bit salty – good balance for the sweetness of Pares!
There are also new drinks like this Yoghurt drink, which is a must-try! What shocked me most is that this is locally made! With its really good flavors, this one deserves an exposure and I am glad that Jonas serves this drink, which shows great support for our local goods!
Overall, with a lot of international restaurants popping up in BGC, Jonas is a breathe of fresh air for me considering that Pares is one of the Philippine’s best foods. So if you have not tried it yet, visit Jonas at The Fort Strip 28th Street, Corner 7th Avenue, Bonifacio Global City.
